Sexual Hypnotherapy. An introduction.

Some of the most well-known treatments for sexual problems like erectile dysfunction, anorgasmia, and premature ejaculation are Viagra, an aphrodisiac diet, therapy, and lube.

But there's another way that might work, even if it sounds a little strange: sexual hypnotherapy.

Hypnotherapy may not be a widespread way to treat sexual problems today," however, hypnotherapy has been used to treat different sexual dysfunction for many years.

But what exactly is sexual hypnotherapy? How well does it really work? Keep reading and I’ll tell you.

Sexual hypnotherapy, also called solution-focused sexual hypnotherapy, can help people work through a persistent sexual problem that gets in the way of their sex life alone or with a partner.

For instance: low libido, lack of sexual desire, erectile dysfunction, premature ejaculation, vaginismus, painful sex, and shame about sex or sexuality

It is not the same as erotic hypnosis.

The goal of erotic hypnosis is to tease, tantalise, and please.

It's used during sex to increase pleasure or make orgasm more likely, or in a BDSM scene as a control element. It’s about having a good time

Sexual hypnotherapy, on the other hand, can help someone work through a deeper sexual problem so that they can have more fun with sex, whether alone or with someone else.

What about sexual counselling?

Hypnotherapy is used as a supplement to therapy or by people who haven't been helped by other treatments.

A sex therapist looks very different from a session with a hypnotherapist who specialises in sex and sexual dysfunction.

During sex therapy you and a therapist talk about your problems. During hypnotherapy, the hypnotist helps you change how your subconscious mind works.

Who stands to gain?

If you're having sexual problems, you should first seek the help of a medical doctor. Why? Because sexual dysfunction can be a sign of a more serious health problem.

Here are just a few examples:

•         high cholesterol

•         metabolic syndrome

•         endometriosis

•         pelvic inflammatory disease

Even if your doctor finds that your symptoms are caused by an underlying health condition, you may still decide to work with a hypnotherapist as part of your healing plan. Where the mind goes, the body will follow. If you believe or fear that sex will be painful or that you won't be able to get and keep an erection, it's likely that this will still be true even after the physical cause has been fixed.

A hypnotherapist can help rewire the subconscious so that these thought patterns don't get in the way of pleasure in the future.

How does it work?

Depending on the kind of dysfunction, the hypnotherapist will take different steps. But the plan of action is usually put together in the same way.

For example, if you're worried that your sex life isn't like what you see in porn, you don't need hypnotherapy. You need to learn what porn is (entertainment) and what it isn't (educational).

Next, the hypnotherapist will ask you about your specific goals. They'll also ask if you've had any traumas in the past so they can figure out what words or ideas could be triggering.

The hypnosis part of the session will come last.

How do you do it?

Most hypnosis sessions start with an induction that helps you to relax and slow down your body.

Then, the hypnotist will help you enter a hypnotic trance using a combination of words, and possibly some breathing techniques.  There is no physical touching or physical contact of any kind.

In sexual hypnosis, we deal with arousal and sexual themes, but nothing sexual happens during the session.

Once you are in this trance-like state, the hypnotherapist will help you access the part of your subconscious mind that is the limiter and then use voice-guided instructions to enable you to change it.

.

Are there any risks or problems to watch out for?

Hypnosis itself isn't dangerous.

When you're in a hypnotic trance, you don't lose control of how you act. You can't do something under hypnosis that you wouldn't do if you weren't under hypnosis.

How do you find a provider you can trust?

You should look for two things in a provider:

1. Certification from an accredited Hypnotherapy Organisation

2. Relevant experience

Once you find someone with these two things, most hypnotherapists will offer a consultation call to see if there is potential for a positive client/therapist relationship.

Be sure to ask the following questions when meeting any potential Sexual Hypnotherapist:

·         Have they worked with people with my specific sexual problem before?

·         Does this expert make me feel at ease?

·         Do I feel safe?

We all need a helping hand from time to time. Please share this post with as many people as possible. You never know who might need it.
